TSE 9 March 2016

Local circumstances calculator >

Except for the beginning of the path, this eclipse is mostly over the Pacific Ocean. Starting off the western coast of Sumatra at local sunrise the path treks eastward over Borneo and then into the ocean. The path ends just north of the Hawaiian islands.

Climate: The chart below shows the average cloud cover for the month of March courtesy of Jay Anderson. The path of the central eclipse is shown in red. The best weather conditions are found near the middle of the path where access will be by ship or airplane only, there are no major islands in the path. A ship operating to the NW of the Hawaiian islands would have a good chance of being able to dodge any local clouds and catch the eclipse in the late afternoon.Color key
